Introduction
Cape Town Village Choir ("we", "us") is the responsible party as defined in the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. It is written for South African law.
What personal information we collect
- Your name, email address and the content of your message when you submit the Join the Choir form.
- Your name and email address when you subscribe to our newsletter.
- Standard technical data collected automatically, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit.
Why we collect it and our lawful basis
We process your information under section 11 of POPIA on two bases: your consent, which you give when you submit a form or subscribe, and our legitimate interests in running the choir. That means replying to you, organising rehearsals and auditions, sending you news about performances, and keeping records a registered NPO needs to keep.
We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
Payments
Donations are processed by Yoco, a third-party South African payment provider, on their own platform. We never see, receive or store your card details. Read Yoco's privacy policy for how they handle your payment information.
How long we keep information
We keep your information only as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected for, or until you ask us to delete it. Newsletter data is deleted when you unsubscribe.
Who we share it with
We share information with service providers who help us operate: email delivery, website hosting and payment processing. They act on our instructions and are bound by confidentiality obligations. We do not transfer your information across South Africa's borders without the safeguards required by section 72 of POPIA.
Your rights under POPIA
- To be told what personal information we hold about you.
- To access that information.
- To have it corrected or deleted.
- To object to how we process it.
- To withdraw your consent at any time.
- To lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa) at complaints.IR@justice.gov.za.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information against loss, damage and unauthorised access, as required by section 19 of POPIA. Form submissions travel over an encrypted connection and are stored in an access-controlled database.
Cookies
This website uses only the cookies and local storage needed to make it work, such as remembering whether you prefer light or dark mode. We do not use advertising cookies. You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings at any time; the site will still work.
Children
We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 without the consent of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of the page shows when it last changed. Material changes will be announced on this page.
